Psychological Support for Siblings of Children with Cancer: Suggestion through review of literature

Abstract
In this study, we reviewed the research literature on siblings of children with cancer to investigate the psychological difficulties they experienced and the contents of their needs in the process. Based on this, we suggest a way to improve the awareness and counseling intervention of the siblings of children with cancer patients. According to the results of the study, the siblings of children with cancer showed internalization problem such as anxiety, depression and fear of illness and also showed externalization problems such as poor academic performance and delinquent behavior. In the family, the siblings of children with cancer patients reported that the changes of family-relationship due to the anger from discrimination against the children with cancer and less communication and that the family-life changes such as economic burden of family and increase roles in the family. Socially, they had difficulties in adapting to school life and lacked accurate information on the disease or emotional support due to insufficient social support. In order to solve these problems, the needs of brothers and sisters were asked to provide information on individual diseases, personal counseling, etc., and to strengthen family relations, strengthen communication, and provide family counseling and care. Based on the results of the study, it was found that the improvement of the awareness of the siblings of children with cancer through parent education, school member education, the counselor education as a dimension of counseling intervention, the search for ways to promote communication within the family, Camps for brothers and sisters, and group counseling programs.
